Ausgrid Outage Map
I was engaged by the creative agency VMLY&R Sydney to work on a UX research project for the energy provider Ausgrid. Their customer research had revealed a need for a better way for users to report or learn about a power outage in their area.
Discovery
I conducted desktop research to understand what Australian and International energy companies were doing to convey complex outage information to their customers. I reported these findings and our recommendations back to senior Ausgrid staff.
Story mapping
A story mapping session was held to prioritise the work for the sprints. Ausgrid had extensive customer data and detailed personas for us to work with. The workshops included the stakeholders and were extremely productive. From this session we had a clear idea of how to break the project into epics and move to design.
UI and UX Design
I was responsible for taking the Ausgrid Design System and creating the new outage maps and functionality. I would test these concepts internally with the team before presenting back to Ausgrid at the end of each sprint.
Summary
Unfortunately the project was halted as the strategy of the organisation shifted. This was disappointing at the time but I was proud of the research and design solutions we had created and enjoyed learning so much about the energy sector.
