Juggernaut Tipping app

Footy tipping, reimagined

The Business Objective

As a design and product team we were tasked with researching how an AFL tipping app could be reimagined for the next generation.

The goal was to create an AFL version to coincide with the launch of the 2025 AFL season. The app could then be white labeled to work across other sporting codes in Australia and internationally.

Research and Discovery

I created a survey to understand AFL fans and their current attitudes towards tipping.

Once we had processed the survey results we designed a set of wireframe concepts which we rapidly prototyped and tested with AFL fans in 1:1 video sessions.

The response was overwhelmingly positive and we had a wealth of data to begin designing high fidelity mocks with.

User Testing

The design team created several strong ideas for AFL tipping games based on the information we had gathered and again I spoke with AFL fans.

I conducted 1:1 usability testing sessions where I shared a Figma prototype with AFL fans who currently play tipping games. These findings helped identify problems and gather additional feedback.

Branding

As the UX and game mechanics were being refined, we had to simultaneously create the brand identity for the product.

We wanted the branding to be fun, engaging, scalable and be applicable to other sporting codes in the future.

Design System

The next challenge was to build a design system in Figma that would work across iOS and Android apps. I involved Product and Engineering in the early stages of this process as I wanted to understand the potential edge cases and solve those problems early.

Promotion and Launch

I worked closely with our marketing team to deliver creative assets for social ads and web banners as well as the assets for the Apple and Android app stores.

The app was well received by AFL fans and successfully ran throughout the 2025 AFL season.
